Powered air mattresses are result of modern technology. Now this kind of high tech beds are backed of by medical studies. A recent medical investigation by RIK medical in Boulder, Colorado, USA. showed very interesting data. They made a quantitative analysis of pressure and shear in the effectiveness of support surfaces. Although they found that non powered support surfaces are better designed for recovery purposes, powered air-filled mattresses are also useful to achieve a high quality recovery in non injured people.
The key in this study was the shear force readings. Lower measurements in this point mean accelerated healings in patients with injuries. Although they stated that randomized clinical trials to validate perceptions of enhanced healing rates are required. One important conclusion is that people need adjustable pressure beds to achieve better sleep quality and physical recovery.
